Diaries date from January 1895 to December 1898 and from January to August 1899. The 1895-1898 diary describes his studies at Davidson College, social events in Davidson, his move to California, and his search for a teaching position. The diary contains references to books he was reading and his involvement with Christian Education programs. The 1899 diary covers his teaching in Azusa, Calif., and a trip from California to Davidson. The ledger contains notes from a Davidson College Bible class (1894-1895) and diary entries (1901-1902). It also contains copies of his academic reports, correspondence, clippings, invitations, and flyers. Organized into the following series: Diaries; Ledger.

Frank Arhtur Barnes of Davidson, N.C., graduated with first honors from Davidson College as the top member of the class of 1895. He continued his studies at Davidson and received an M.A. degree in 1896. He studied in preparation for the Presbyterian ministry at Union, Columbia and Austin theological seminaries. He moved with his family to California and taught school for several years. He later served pastorates in Texas and North Carolina, including Mooresville, before his retirement. ...
